日本の親愛なるみなさまへ

３月おきた度重なる地震で被害にあわれたみなさまに心からお見舞い申し上げます。
これまで、美しい日本を受けたおもてなしに対してとても感謝しています。
そして、海外選手にここが我が家かと感じさせる程、協力しあう素晴らしい人々のことが心に浮かんできました。
2011年に川崎で開かれるこの大会が、みなさんの気持ちを少しでも盛り上げるられるよう願っています。

Asafa Powell My Dear Fans and Friends in Japan,
I feel very deeply for the pain and suff ering you and your families have experienced over the last months as a result of the severest earthquake in history to hit Japan. Throughout my career, I have had the pleasure of visiting your beautiful islands and experience your caring hospitality on many occasions. The memories that most come to mind are of the many wonderful and joyous people that got together to make every visiting athlete feel like they were at home. I extend my sympathy for each one of you and hope that the event you are about to experience here in Kawasaki will help raise your spirits.

親愛なる日本のみなさんへ

私の祈りがみなさまに届きますように。 日本で発生したここ数週間の目を覆うような出来事は私や家族にとっても、大変ショックで心が痛みます。
度重なる地震や津波による被害は、多くのみなさんの家族、親戚そして友人まで影響を及ぼしそれは、私の想像以上に人々を落胆させていることでしょう。しかしその一方で、この悲劇的な出来事を乗り越えて、みなさんが一丸となって一歩前に踏み出そうとされていることにとても感動しています。
私はこれまで何度も日本を訪れ、この素晴らしい国で試合をし、幸運にも世界陸上大阪大会含めて多くの大会で勝利をおさめることができました。沢山の思い出がある国ですから、福島での惨事を聞いて、その近隣に住んでいる方々のことが心配でなりません。時間がかかるとは思いますが、日本の復興を信じ、みなさんに明るい未来がくることをこれからも祈り続けます。
今回このようにメッセージを送る機会をいただいたことに心から感謝いたします。

Yelena Isinbaeva My Dear Friends from Japan,
My heart and my prayers go out to each and everyone of you at this time. The events of the past several weeks have been shocking and heart-breaking for me and my family to watch. And I know it must be even more devastating to many of you with family, close relatives and friends effected by what has happened as a result of the earthquake and tsunami. But at the same time I have also been impressed at how everyone in Japan has united to take steps to overcome this tragedy and to move forward.
I have been to Japan many times in the past,
I have competed in your wonderful country several times and been fortunate enough to have success on several occasions including the Golden Grand Prix Meeting in Kawasaki. So when the events happened near Fukushima I was very concerned for everyone in that effected region. I know it will take time but I believe and have confi dence in everyone in Japan that things will continue to get better. I will keep you in my prayers and I wish everyone a prosperous future.

今大会で男子砲丸投げが催されないことをとても残念におもっています。昨年は、私にとって初めての日本で大会と同様に人々との交流があり楽しく過ごすことができました。
地震や津波によって多大な被害を受け、多くの命が犠牲になったことに、心からお悔やみ申し上げます。悲しいことばかりが続いていますが、人々が最善を尽くしている姿は、世界に対して、日本が回復に向けて歩んでいることを示しています。
日本そして強くたくましい日本の人々はこの最悪な状況から以前よりもより良い形で復興することでしょう。
私たちの心そして魂は、みなさんと共にあります。
川崎の本大会が成功し、主催したみなさんの努力が復興への１つのきっかけとなりますように。

Christian Cantwell To Japan and its wonderful people, I am sorduring the Kawaski Golden Grand Prix this year. Last year was my first appearance in Japan and I enjoyed the people and the country of Japan as well as the competition. I know that the Earthquake and Tsunami have caused a tremendous loss of life and damage and I want to send my condolences to all of the people. In these times of sorrow, the best in people emerges and Japan has shown the world it will make and take all steps necessary to recover.
I know that Japan and its people are strong and that you all will come back from natures worst better and stronger than before. Our hearts and souls are with you and we wish you the best in the recovery process. We especially wish success on the Kawaski Golden Grand Prix and I applaud the efforts being made by the meeting organizers to donate the gate proceeds to the recovery eff ort. Kenenisa Bekele I was shocked to see the devastating power of the earthquake in Japan. It makes you aware that we can not predict nature. I hope the Japanese people will help each other to overcome this disaster and I wish them all the strength to do this. In the future I hope to go to Japan to run and to visit my Japanese fans.

Sanya Richards-Ross I extend my warmest and sincerest condolences to the families that have been aff ected by the recent tsunami and earthqueakes in Japan. I can never imagine how diffi cult it is to lose a loved one' or have to rebuild one after such devastation. My constant prayers and love are with each of you. I pray that better days are ahead! I wish I could be there to perform this year and bring a little joy to your hearts but hopefully I can be there in near future!

2007年の世界陸上大阪大会で金メダル、昨年はSuper Meet川崎大会で勝利するなど日本には良い思い出が沢山あります。そんな愛する日本で起きた今回の地震や津波のニュースを知り、胸が苦しくなりました。 この災害で苦しんでいるみなさんのこれからの幸せを祈るとともに、日本が１つになって、この困難に立ち向かっていくことを応援しています。

I have very good memories from Japan. In 2007 I won World Championships gold medal in Osaka and last year I won in Kawasaki Super Meet.
Now it has been painful to get those terrible earthquake and tsunami news from your friendly country. From the bottom of my heart I want to wish all the best for everyone who has suff ered from this disaster and to encourage whole Japan to fi ght through this very diffi cult time.

Dwight Phillips The devastating occurrence of events that happened in Japan really has touched my heart. I have made myself available help in any capacity that I can. I also strongly urge everyone to contribute to helping such a great country as well. I have been apart of charities to help raise money for the people of Japan. Haile Gebreselassie The disaster in Japan shows me how fragile life is. My thoughts are with the thousands of people who lost their family, their friends and their homes. I wish the entire nation the strength and the willpower to overcome this big disaster. I am with them in my thoughts especially since I was supposed to run in Tokyo just before the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan.

Brad Walker As a gold medalist from the 2007 world championships in Japan, I have many fond memories of Japan and its supportive citizens. I have always appreciated the respect, loyalty, and overall culture that your country holds so dear. It is that same respect, loyalty, and culture that will no doubt carry you through this natural disaster and will bring your country even closer in the process. There are no words to express my sympathy which has happened to the people of Japan. Always I felt great respect and so much friendly acceptance from the people of Japan. Such a disaster these people certainly did and do not deserve. But I hope that you will come out of this misfortune stronger than before and remember - the whole World is with you!

日本という国は、大会に参加し滞在期間中いつも楽しく過ごすことができた国です。
その国が被害にあったので気になってしょうがありません。
今年の大会に参加しみなさんと共にいたかったのですが、母国ジャマイカでの約束があるため参加ができません。
みなさんは「日出ずる国」の人々です。大陽はふたたび輝き、みなさんは必ず立ち上がることでしょう。

Veronica Campbell-Brown It is with sadness that I write to the people of Japan to off er my sympathies for the destruction your country recently experienced. Japan is a country I have always enjoyed traveling to and competing in so this devastation has really gotten my attention.
I would have loved to have been there this year in solidarity with you, however, I have a prior commitment in my home country Jamaica.
You ar the ”Land of the Rising Sun” so I am positive that the sun will shine again in Japan and your great people will rise up from this disaster!

陸上選手として私が最も誇りに思う瞬間は、2007年に日本の大阪で開催された世界陸上で勝利したことです。
人生の中でも最も誇りに思える瞬間でしたし、一生忘れることはありません。そんな日本のみなさんと私とはつながっている気がしてなりません。日本人はみんな楽しむことが大好きだという印象があります。ですから、災害が日本を襲ったと聞いたとき、胸が苦しくなりました。

Reese Hoff My proudest moment as an athlete was when I won the World Championships in Osaka in 2007. It was probably the proudest moment of my life and one I will never forget. I feel like I made a connection with the people of Japan. My impression of the Japanese people was that everyone was very happy and fun loving. When I heard about the devastation that hit Japan I was very saddened and concerned. I know Japan is a great nation and that you will all over come this disaster. You are all within my thoughts and prayers and I am wishing you all the quickest recovery.
